Join the movement to support eco-friendly design. A local Northwest artist creates these bracelets reclaimed from used skateboards, collected from her local shop. What a great use of a meticulously made product. Higher end skateboards are typically made from 7 layers of maplewood which have been laminated together and topped with some sort of painted graphic or silkscreen design.
You can see the layers of wood & painted board in these fun bracelets, each design varies. Priced at only $24/bracelet, you realize you can support eco-friendly design without breaking the bank.

Here’s a Summer fun book for sure. A friend of mine gave me this book several years ago. She knows my passion for color and thought it would be a nice surprise after our girls day out. It definitely has the” woo woo” astrological factor, which I think is very fun. It also seems fairly accurate.
Here’s how it works: you look up your birthday date, by month & day (not year). For every month there is a color, for every day there is a color. Then they’ve taken it a step further and attached an astrological - or I should say colorstrological (not sure if that’s a word?) meaning to your birthday. It describes the meaning of the colors & personality traits associated with those colors for your particular day of birth. It also forecasts which colors are most complimentary for you in your living & working spaces. I would say the accuracy level for everyone I tried it out on is about 80%.
The other thing I love about this book, is that it’s got the individual colors sorted out into the pantone color system. There’s a color chip section in the back, where you can tear out your color chip, or give one to a friend.
Check it out, it’s very fun…

I got the coolest app for my iPhone today. Sherwin Williams, which happens to be one of my favorite paint stores, just sent me this new app for FREE. I downloaded it right away, so I could try it out. It does everything they say it does, and it’s super easy. This is how it works: You take a photo of something (anything) that has a color you’re interested in. It then shows your photo on the screen and you pinpoint one color in the variety of the colors in the photo. After you’ve selected the exact color you’re after, it provides you with a primary color and two secondary colors which are complimentary. It provides you with the name of the Sherwin Williams paint color it’s closest to (and it’s corresponding paint number). It also provides you with the RGB equivalent of the colors. You can then save the colors and even search for the nearest Sherwin Williams location.
I think this ColorSnap app is genius. Especially for a color freak like me.

I came across these wonderful, colorful clocks the other day and can’t help but write about them. They are created by a local artist, who has a great business sense and a keen eye for color. They are whimsical & heartfelt designs, which are only available to those who seek them out in specialty stores or online. Pam’s work has been featured in House Beautiful, Seventeen and Pacific Northwest magazine.
I think these cool clocks would be great in your kitchen, kids room or office. I spoke with Pam and she wanted to extend a special offer to my readers for these fun clocks. She’s offering a 15% discount with the code: NAXIS
This is just a small sampling of her designs, but if you visit her website Paper Scissors Rock, you’ll find many more.

I also love this new alarm clock design….go Obama!

What are the facts on beverages that have flown through space and are now back on earth? Spaceflown electrolytes? Do I really want to drink them? What sort of effect do atmospheric conditions have on plastic bottles and electrolytes? Should I be concerned that the Space Store is offering these at a discount? Is there a reason they are being sold at a discount? Did NASA find out that these beverages made the astronauts smarter? Do they just want to find out if people will buy them? Maybe they have a huge warehouse full of this particular water and with all the budget cuts they are now responsible for their own funding? And it’s only available to ship in the United States. What does that mean? I’m just not sure what to think. But I do know it sounds very interesting, which is why I am posting this.
If you would like to explore this with me, click on the photo and see what you think…

Pantone kicked off the year with their official yellow color: Mimosa. It’s a vibrant warm yellow, with hints of orange. That spurred everyone else to jump on board in the fashion & interior decorating worlds. But still, there aren’t that many people that actually look good when wearing yellow. It tends to cast that terrible hue on your skin that makes you look ill. No matter, there’s plenty of room for yellow everywhere else…hopefully those who don’t look good in it have learned not too wear it just for the sake of the trend. I must say, however, that our beautiful new First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore her shade of yellow in the most perfect way.
Here are some places we’re seeing yellow today…

A great jewelry artist friend of mine, Carolyn Osborne of Creative Forces, sent me this really cool quiz. It’s based on the belief (scientific fact, actually) that all people see color a little bit differently. But the approach in this is to choose between different words, not colors. It’s sort of a multiple choice, you go through and choose between two words in each scenario. Your choice of words determines the intensity and colors of your own personal rainbow. It’s very interesting…try it just for fun!
This is my rainbow…
Your rainbow is intensely shaded
violet, white, and orange.
What is says about you: You are a contemplative person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you’ve mastered it. Others are amazed at how you don’t give up.
Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.
These are my absolute favorite colored pencils of all time. Being a life long artist & designer I’ve used several different types of colored pencils over the years. I always go back to Prismacolors. The intensity of their color in fantastic. They’re easy to apply, they’re not in the least bit chalky and they don’t break like the cheaper ones. These days they come in different thicknesses, I prefer the thicker ones as opposed to the thinner ones.
They happen to be on sale now (up to 64% off!), so it’s a good time to stock up.
