ColorSnap…My Favorite New iPhone App.
I got the coolest app for my iPhone today. Sherwin Williams, which happens to be one of my favorite paint stores, just sent me this new app for FREE. I downloaded it right away, so I could try it out. It does everything they say it does, and it’s super easy. This is how it works: You take a photo of something (anything) that has a color you’re interested in. It then shows your photo on the screen and you pinpoint one color in the variety of the colors in the photo. After you’ve selected the exact color you’re after, it provides you with a primary color and two secondary colors which are complimentary. It provides you with the name of the Sherwin Williams paint color it’s closest to (and it’s corresponding paint number). It also provides you with the RGB equivalent of the colors. You can then save the colors and even search for the nearest Sherwin Williams location.
I think this ColorSnap app is genius. Especially for a color freak like me.

I have noticed that I love color. I have been through design school, worked years in Interior Design, and am constantly repainting and accenting my own home, but it wasn’t until I developed “PaintSwatches” my new iPhone App that I realized I love color. Perhaps I have always known it and that is what made me frustrated when planning and organizing my paint palettes. I had a vision of seeing all the colors at one time and choosing the ones I wanted and playing with them, moving them around, and throwing in various shades to see what happens to the overall composition. But, I digress, I noticed that you loved the Sherwin Williams “ColorSnap” app and while it is a nice app and visually pleasing I have always found that I experiment with more schemes and more colors than the app allows and wanted to see more control for the users. When the ColorSnap App came out in the iTunes store I was in the middle of developing “PaintSwatches” and almost stopped. But, then I realized that I had a far grander vision.
Therefore, I have worked hard to create “PaintSwatches”. “PaintSwatches” is an app that appeals visually to those who see the world through it’s beauty of form and color and in addition, has a true function. The function is organization. Organization to keep track of the hundreds of schemes we’ve pondered over for the living room, the touch up paint we need for the wall your son wrote on, the accent color we want to try this spring, or determine if the rug we see on clearance will match my dining room. Simple, clear, concise and useful it can also be fun and visually stimulating. Take a look at “PaintSwatches” I think you will like it.
In addition, I enjoy and am amazed by people who are unafraid of color. I am constantly in awe of what people can create. Realizing they have a great understanding for color and that is a talent I have visions utilizing some of that knowledge and power in future updates too the App. It can change the way people enjoy color.
Thanks for your comment and congratulations on this fantastic app! I think this will be a great color tool for interior designers & painters. I watched your you tube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Je2yUsZBhI) and I’m particularly impressed with how easy it is to send the paint color information via email.
