Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese tradition of  using the laws of heaven and earth to find success and balance in your life. Historically, it has been used for things such as finding the appropriate place to build a home (including which direction to face), deciding on a burial site or choosing where to plant.

Today, we see a lot of people turning to feng shui for help in overcoming certain obstacles in their lives, or trying to achieve success in a specific area. By using methods of direction, placement, objects and colors we try to influence those things in our lives which sometimes seem to need influence that can only be described as “heavenly”.

The basic elements of feng shui include: water, wood, fire, soil and metal. It is a practice that is about achieving balance in your physical world, to receive help from the heavenly world. Using these elements in equal amounts in your environment will help you find that balance. Polarity and magnetism are also a key part of this practice. The feng shui compass as well as the bagua (above) are important tools in determining the direction and placement of your feng shui articles.

It is also said that placing certain objects in the colors represented by their placement on the bagua will bring you success in those areas. Using rainbow colors which go from floor to ceiling (representing the earth-heaven connection) in a particular area are also thought to bring success.  For example: Placing rainbow colored ribbons in the North area of your home will enhance your career success, as will placing something black there.
